Cellulite is a skin condition affecting over 90% of most post-pubescent women. Even those with a slim figure often complain about cellulite’s external visible symptoms — its lumpy, dimpled appearance. Cellulite commonly appears on the hips, buttocks and legs, but is not caused by being overweight, as many believe.

Cellulite Sources and Treatment

Cellulites, regardless of the density of the usually female (or male) fat structure, or the weight of the patient, these annoying, unsightly, mottled skin “dimples” are frequently visibly apparent and can wreak havoc on the appearance one’s thighs and buttocks.

Cellulite is caused by constrictive fibrous bands, layered throughout necessary subcutaneous fat, cellulite gives the skin the classic “orange peel”, or “cottage cheese” texture.  Exercise will not eliminate this skin condition, nor will diet or lifestyle.

The Aesthetic Medical Physicians at Phoenix Regency Medical Aesthetics are enjoying progress in combating, and decreasing, the effects of cellulite on their patients.  By injecting Collagenase, a natural compound into the apparent fibrous cellulite bands, patients are witnessing the dissolution of many of these fibrous bands.

Treatment Schedule/Frequency

Treatments are recommended every 3 weeks until the desired effect is achieved.  Normally the goal is achieved after one or two treatment session.

Studies Using Collagenase Conclusions

“There was a significant reduction in cellulite appearance of the injected area. Cellulite area was reduced by 77% day 1, 74% at 1 week,89% at 1 month,86% at 3 mos.,76% at 6 months. Patient satisfaction was 1.75 at 6 months (1= completely satisfied, 4= not satisfied). Side effects included injection area soreness, ecchymosis and mild edema which resolved in a mean of 10, 18 and 6 days, respectively. Conclusions: This study has shown that collagenase injection for cellulite is safe and has merit.” American Society of Plastic Surgeons
